Demineralization (RO + ion exchange or EDI)

- Required for high-pressure steam generators, where residual salts cause scale and corrosion
- Higher equipment and operating cost compared to softening
- More service points and wastewater that needs further treatment
When this solution isn't needed
If the process only requires removing hardness — for example a low-pressure steam generator or washing lines with no critical dyeing requirements — full demineralization isn't needed: softening covers it at a significantly lower cost. Demineralization is justified where residual salts directly affect dyeing quality or high-pressure equipment operation.
